Origin Story

A life long musician Kai started as a drummer when he was just a kid. Kai's love of music quickly expanded into voice, piano, guitar, trumpet and eventually ukulele. In the early years Kai played as a drummer in an alternative rock band and jazz combo giving him a great foundation in rhythm. With a diverse love of many styles of music such as rock, pop, folk, blues r&b and jazz Kai soon found his home in the jazz and folk singer songwriter genres.

Kai's music education began with years of private instruction and workshops. In his post-secondary music education Kai trained to be a music therapist, he completed 4 years in general music studies and jazz studies while acquiring music therapy work experience. Through this education Kai realized you could have just as much therapy through learning music, he also discovered his innate ability teach, breaking music down logically and presenting it in a fun and inspiring way.

The ukulele is what really solidified Kai's personality as a music teacher. He was blown away by how easy it was to get going on this little instrument and how much you can do on it.

With special training from hawaiian ukulele master Kimo Hussey Kai discovered his favourite instrument and approach to music. We often think that playing music is only for the talented or gifted but Kai's approach shows us how anyone with passion and practice can play, especially when starting on this accessible beautiful little instrument called the ukulele!
